Questions Asked by Customers Before Starting
The first RC car, the first LiPo battery, the first off-road outing – all come with a bunch of questions. We've gathered some of the most frequent ones we receive at Crazy Monster Trucks, exactly as customers ask them before hitting "place order".
"What battery should I choose to start with?" – Most of the time, the answer depends on the model. If you have a 1/10 truck, a 2S (7.4V) LiPo battery is enough for easy fun. For tougher terrain and higher speed, a 3S (11.1V) makes the difference. It's important to check the ESC (speed controller) specifications – not all support 3S from the factory.
"Do I need a special charger for LiPo?" – Yes, and it's not a luxury. Standard chargers for NiMH batteries don't have the correct voltage and current settings for LiPo. A dedicated LiPo charger with a balancing function prevents cell overcharging and extends battery life. We recommend models with a digital display and manual current setting.
"How do I know if the suspension is tough enough?" – Look at the material of the arms and the type of shocks. Reinforced plastic or aluminum arms, combined with adjustable oil-filled shocks, are a clear sign of durability. On our models, each truck goes through a drop test from 1 meter height – if nothing breaks, it's ready for shipping.
"Can I use the car on grass or sand?" – Absolutely. Most 4x4 off-road models are built for that. However, tall grass can clog the wheels and overheat the motor, and fine sand gets into the bearings. After each run on sand, a blast of compressed air and a drop of oil in the bearings work wonders.
"How long until I learn to control the car well?" – It depends on how often you go out. After 3-4 sessions of 20 minutes each, most beginners manage to make smooth turns and avoid obstacles. After a month, you'll already be trying small jumps and drifting on gravel. It's fun from the first start.
"What do I do if the battery swells?" – Stop using it immediately. A swollen LiPo battery is a sign of internal damage and is no longer safe. Do not charge it, do not use it, and do not throw it in household trash. Take it to an electronic waste collection center or a store that accepts used batteries. We provide information about collection points in your city upon request.
"Can I buy spare parts separately?" – Yes, we have a dedicated section with arms, shocks, wheels, motors, and batteries. Each part is listed with exact compatibility, so you don't have to guess. If you have doubts, you can email or call us – we respond the same day.
"Is there a warranty?" – All our cars and batteries benefit from a legal 2-year conformity warranty. For LiPo batteries, the warranty covers manufacturing defects (dead cells, internal short circuit), but not mechanical damage or improper use. Keep the invoice and original packaging.
"How do I know if the model is suitable for my child?" – The recommended age is clearly written on each product page. For children under 8, we recommend models with limited speed (max 15 km/h) and a soft shell. For teenagers and adults, models with a brushless motor and speed over 40 km/h are more suitable. If you're not sure, call us and we'll tell you exactly what to choose.
"Can I return the product if I don't like it?" – Yes, you have the right of withdrawal within 14 days of receipt, according to current legislation. The product must be in its original condition, unused, and in intact packaging. We do not accept returns for LiPo batteries that have been charged or connected to a model.
"Do you deliver throughout Romania?" – Yes, we deliver by express courier to any locality. The cost is automatically calculated at checkout, based on weight and destination. For orders over 500 lei, shipping is free.
"How do I know if the parts are compatible with my model?" – Each part has a list of compatible models in the description. If your model doesn't appear, write to us with the exact series and name, and we'll confirm within 24 hours. Often, parts from the same manufacturer are interchangeable between generations.
"Can I come to the store to see the models before buying?" – We currently don't have a physical showroom open to the public, but you can schedule an online viewing via video call. We'll show you the model in action, answer your questions, and you can make an informed decision. Appointments are made by email or phone.
"What do I do if I receive a defective product?" – Contact us immediately, preferably with a photo or short video. Within 48 hours, we'll confirm the solution – either replacement or refund. You won't incur additional shipping costs for returning a defective product.
"Can I buy a separate battery without a charger?" – Yes, we sell individual batteries. However, we recommend purchasing a quality LiPo charger at the same time, to avoid damaging the battery due to an unsuitable charger. We have promotional packages that include a battery + charger at a better price.
"How do I store batteries in winter?" – If you don't use the car for a few months, charge the batteries to storage voltage (3.8V per cell) and keep them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Ideally, in a LiPo fireproof bag. Check the voltage once a month and recharge to storage level if it drops below 3.7V per cell.
"Can I use the battery from one car in another?" – Only if both models have the same connector and the same operating voltage. For example, a 3S 11.1V battery with an XT60 connector can be used with any model that accepts 3S and has an XT60 connector. Always check the specifications before connecting.
"What does C-rating mean for batteries?" – It is the maximum safe discharge rate. A 5200mAh battery with 50C can theoretically deliver 260A (5.2A × 50). Practically, a higher C-rating means the battery can support sudden accelerations without overheating excessively. For beginners, a C-rating between 30 and 50 is sufficient.
"I've heard LiPos are dangerous. Is that true?" – They are safe if you follow a few simple rules: don't overcharge them, don't puncture them, don't expose them to extreme temperatures, and don't use them if they are swollen. Use a dedicated LiPo charger, keep them in a fireproof bag, and don't leave them unattended while charging. With these measures, the risk is minimal.
"Can I buy a Ready-to-Run (RTR) model?" – Yes, most of our models are RTR (Ready-to-Run) – they come with a battery, charger, transmitter, and receiver. Open the box, charge the battery, and you're ready to go. Some models only need 4 AA batteries for the remote control.
"What do I do if I lose the remote control?" – You can order a new remote control from us, compatible with your model. Usually, a binding process between the receiver and transmitter is required, described in the manual. If you have difficulties, we'll guide you step by step.
"Can I modify the car as I wish?" – Yes, the RC hobby encourages customization. You can change wheels, suspension, motor, even the body. However, any modification can affect the warranty and stability. Start with simple upgrades, like more aggressive tires or a more powerful brushless motor.
"How do I know when it's time to replace the battery?" – When you notice a significant drop in runtime (e.g., from 20 minutes to 5 minutes), when the battery gets excessively hot during normal use, or when a visible bulge appears. A well-maintained LiPo battery can last 300-500 charge cycles.
"Is there a user community in Romania?" – Yes, there are Facebook groups and forums dedicated to off-road RC. We occasionally organize meetups and friendly races in the park – follow our page for announcements. It's an excellent way to learn from others and test your car in real conditions.
"Can I buy a second-hand model from you?" – We don't sell second-hand models, but we have a "Deals" section with new products at reduced prices, from limited stock or previous collections. All are new, in original packaging, with full warranty.
"How do I choose between a monster truck and a buggy?" – The monster truck has large wheels and high ground clearance, ideal for rough terrain, gravel, and grass. The buggy is lower, more aerodynamic, and faster on flat ground or sand. If you want maximum fun on any surface, choose a monster truck. If you want speed and maneuverability on a track, choose a buggy.
"Can I order spare parts for a model I didn't buy from you?" – Yes, we sell universal and specific spare parts for most popular models. Send us the exact name of the model and the part you need, and we'll confirm availability and compatibility.
"What do I do if I have a technical problem after using the car a few times?" – Contact us and we'll provide free technical support. Often, the problem is solved with a short video or a few instructions. If it's a defect covered by the warranty, we'll arrange replacement or repair at no extra cost.
"Can I buy an additional battery to have more play time?" – Absolutely. We recommend having at least two batteries to alternate: one charges while you play with the other. Make sure you have a charger that supports simultaneous charging of
